Hello Camino Grove Families and Students,
This time of the school year is amazing! Students are excited about their new knowledge and confidence. They are inquiring how they can do more to help the community be better. On February 23rd, Camino Grove opened their doors to AUSD’s remarkable board of education members and district leaders. Together, we walked throughout the campus and each classroom to learn and wonder. Our student leaders led groups with great pride, while students in the classrooms were readily available to explain their thinking. Click here to view our classrooms in action.

April 1st- 5th, No School. Spring Break. (This will approach us quickly!)
🏠Open House is Thursday, March 28th
- Picnic in the Pavillion from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Bring your dinner and enjoy the company of family and friends.
- From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., classrooms will be open to celebrate our students' learning and growth.
🏃🏾Jogathon is Friday, March 29th. This is a PTA fundraiser. All students – whether they have sponsors or not –will run/walk with the entire school on the day of the jog-a-thon. Please make sure your student wears appropriate athletic shoes on this day. Parent volunteers will be needed to set up, cheer, tally, and clean up this fun event. More information will be shared by our wonderful PTA.
If interested, there is a webinar hosted by Care Solace: "Teens & Cyberbullying: How to Protect Children & Champion Their Resilience" webinar on March 15th from 10am-11am PST! This webinar will talk about how to understand and deal with the impacts of cyberbullying on our teens today. Registration for Upcoming Webinar here.

Reflection is a powerful, personal process that takes learning to the next level. Instead of simply following steps or regurgitating information for a grade, reflection helps us build deeper connections to concepts. It provides the opportunity to question what we have learned and helps us apply it as we move forward. In short, reflection engages us in higher-order thinking. And this, in turn, makes it more likely that we'll become life-long learners and positively impact others.
The problem is that reflection takes time. And it takes practice--lots of practice. And there's already so much to do! The solution? Model reflection so your child can hear a growth mindset. Here are some questions to support a daily or weekly reflection at home. Click here.

Hola Familias y Estudiantes de Camino Grove,
¡Esta época del año escolar es increíble! Los estudiantes están entusiasmados con sus nuevos conocimientos y confianza. Están preguntando cómo pueden hacer más para ayudar a que la comunidad sea mejor. El 23 de febrero, Camino Grove abrió sus puertas a los notables miembros de la junta educativa y líderes del distrito de AUSD. Juntos, caminamos por el campus y cada salón de clases para aprender y maravillarnos. Hello Camino Grove Families and Students,
Happy Lunar New Year!
Camino Grove students who placed in the PTA Reflections program were recently celebrated and recognized. The following students were recognized from Camino Grove Elementary:
- Film and Production- Henry Tang, 1st Place
- Literature- Luna Chung, 3rd Place
- Music Composition, Audrey Chang and John Paul Chang, 2nd Place
- Visual Arts, Ethan Xia and Chelsea Tam, 3rd Place
Many parents and students have received an email to complete a survey for the district’s Local Control and Accountability Plan. Your insights are valued. Thank you in advance for completing this survey as we build our future together.
Our school is taking on the Great Kindness Challenge, where we dedicate one week centered toward kindness. During February 12-16, we will participate in this proactive, positive culture-building initiative to promote small acts of kindness. Find more ideas on the checklist here to extend kindness at home and to those around you. The Camino Grove spirit team is busy creating different activities and themes for this week. More information will be shared soon!

February is a busy month! Here are the events to be aware of:
- Camino Grove Book Fair- February 5th- February 9th, after school. This is a great time to bring new books to your child’s home library and to support the school’s library.
- Parent/Teacher Conferences. Dismissal will be at 12:27 pm for each day on February 7th-9th. School lunch is available after school for students supervised by their parents or guardians, students with Arcadia Recreation, or Right At School. Lunches will be eaten in the pavilion.
- PTA Meeting, Monday, February 12th at 6 pm. Come join us! It is never too late to join the Camino Grove PTA! Click here for more information! Come to listen or brainstorm and launch engaging events for the community!
- Valentine’s Class Parties, February 14th
- President’s Day, No school, February 19th

Camino Grove is so grateful to have a small team of parent volunteers in the morning, opening car doors, helping students with backpacks, and keeping traffic flowing so everyone can start their day with success. These amazing parents can’t do it alone. Please consider helping in the morning between 8 am to 8:20 am. Come and join us! Bring a smile and a helping hand! It takes a community! A reminder: please do not let your students out of the carline until they reach the sidewalk. Thank you in advance for doing your part.
Let’s find our leaders on campus! Camino Grove reached their school-wide goal by collecting over 600 Caught Being a Leader slips. As a community, each grade level will celebrate our hard work and display of habits. Our next school-wide goal is to collect 750 slips by the end of the month. Ask your student which habits they were able to practice today. Ask which habits they need support in. Let’s go, Roadrunners!
For February, students and staff will reflect on Habit 5- See First to Understand. Here is a family brainstormer to reflect together.
❤️ Take time to show those around you how much you care for them. Show appreciation to those who support you and push you to be the best version of yourself! I am grateful to stretch my knowledge and compassion as I learn from the students, staff, and parents of Camino Grove. We may not agree on everything our classmates or colleagues think, however, we make space to listen and learn. Differences are an opportunity to learn. As Michelle Obama said, “Becoming requires equal parts patience and rigor. Becoming is never giving up the idea that there’s more growing to be done.”

¡Feliz Año Nuevo Lunar!
Los estudiantes de Camino Grove que se ubicaron en el programa Reflections de la PTA fueron recientemente celebrados y reconocidos. Los siguientes estudiantes fueron reconocidos de la Primaria Camino Grove:

The office staff and I would like to express our gratitude:
It is truly overwhelming and heartwarming to receive so many wonderful and thoughtful gifts during the holiday season. The Camino Grove family is one that is so generous in so many ways, it is actually difficult to find the words to adequately thank you all. Please know that as we opened each and every gift and card we felt the love and care CG’s family is known for! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Leader in Me
This month, Camino Grove is reviewing our fourth habit, Think Win-Win. This habits helps us to be empathic toward others, balance courage and consideration for others, and consider other people’s wins as well as our own. Our student morning announcements have started the new year by giving examples of how we can create win-win agreements.
Questions to guide win-win situations may sound like this:
- How can I work with others to create opportunities so everyone feels respected and valued?
- What can I do to place an “Emotional Bank Account” (EBA) deposit to someone I know? OR What can I do so my peers feel respected by my actions and words?
Here is a Leader in Me family brainstormer, think win-win, to help guide discussion at home.
Restorative Practices
As we know, problems may arise even when we make an effort for win-win situations. At Camino Grove, students and staff apply Restorative Practices to build community and relationships, repair harm, and restore relationships. We hold ourselves accountable for our actions, reflect, and make a plan to improve our actions and improve the relationship that was harmed. Here are the questions that are asked and reflected upon:
“Consideration for others is the basis of a good life, a good society.” - Confucius. To extend the quote, consideration drives a good community as well. I appreciate everyone’s partnership as we evolve, work, and navigate the unknown together.

- We are so fortunate to collaborate with Arcadia High School’s Cross-Age Program. The high school students support our primary students in physical activities, sportsmanship and fun!

To accommodate our families, there will be three 1 hour performances.

Leader in Me supports our students to reflect on how they can be the best learner and leader. Here is a video supporting proactive thinking created by Mr. Lopez’s third-grade class. Click here.
This coming month the staff and students will be discussing Habit 3, Put First Things First. Our morning announcers provide Monday reflections as we start the school week. How can we put the important things first so we can see progress and growth in ourselves and support our community? The important things are known as “big rocks.” Here is a brainstorming activity the family can do together to listen, practice and learn from one another.

Some events to be aware of are as follows:

There have been various families that have dropped off food and candy treats in the front office. Please be aware that these items will be turned away. In the parent handbook, there is an explanation of enforced nutritional and party guidelines, which align with district policy. Read here. Some main points are as follows:
- Many students have fatal food allergies
- Elementary school sites are permitted two class parties per year, a holiday and Valentine’s Day party. Outside food may be brought for these two occasions only and will be eaten after lunch.
- Birthday and other holiday food treats or “goodies” conflict with the district’s nutritional guidelines.
- Classroom cooking experiences and experimentation will work closely with Nutrition Services.

Thank you for supporting these guidelines as we adjust past practices to create healthy and safe environments for our students.
Camino Grove’s mission statement expresses the belief in confident and creative learners. Two Leader in Me habits support this belief: being proactive and beginning with the end in mind.
Students and staff are learning more about Habit 2, Beginning with the End in Mind. To be successful at something, whether it is an activity or a goal, a plan needs to be put in place. As a family, review family values (things the family cares about and are most important). Another possible activity to help your child practice the habit is to make a list of the family’s values and why they are important. Celebrate them frequently.
Students are active in classroom jobs, so classrooms are attended to and cared for. School leadership opportunities are in place so students impact the campus. Here are some of the opportunities that are evolving for third, fourth, and fifth graders:
- Morning Greeters- when students arrive, they are seen and shown that they matter.
- Hallway Helpers- walk students down the hallways in the morning so everyone is calm and safe.
- Circle Keepers- facilitate restorative circles and community building
- Lunch Helpers- help pass out lunch trays, move the lunch lines, help organize the recycling of the trays, and help maintain the lunch pavilion.
- Morning Announcers- Every Monday, a special school-wide message will be created to support the activation of leadership and community.
- Mascot- the mascot will be worn and escorted to make appearances at various school events.
- Student Lighthouse Team- this team of students will be coming soon! They will create spirit events and messaging for the school and families.
Students and staff are creating additional leadership opportunities. I look forward to keeping you all posted!
We now move into November, and many of us make space to reflect on what we are grateful for and how we can give back to those around us. Leadership At Home by Leader in Me provides examples of how leadership can be supported at home. Also, during Thanksgiving vacation, review the 7 Habits with your student by playing Family Bingo. Which five boxes will you and your family complete? What did you learn about your family?
At this time of the school year, students are navigating and practicing how to manage challenging situations with other peers. Sometimes, this can be hard work, as there are many different opinions, behaviors, and approaches to everyday school routines and student interactions. With those differences, students are faced with problem-solving and empathizing with different perspectives. We use the Problem-Solving Steps by Second Steps to support student navigation in such situations. Students articulate the issue and make a plan to move forward (and “be better”). In some cases, restoring a relationship is the final step. Through this process, students are activating solutions to maintain our caring community.

Hello Camino Grove Families and Students,
Every morning during arrival and every afternoon during dismissal, Camino Grove is buzzing with families, after-school programs, and students. A system and flow are in place to keep Camino Grove safe and to be cognizant of our surrounding neighbors. It takes a community to do this work. At Camino Grove, parents are volunteering in the morning and teachers are guiding dismissal in the afternoons. We all have an essential part. Please review the following:

October 2nd-6th, Student-Parent Conferences is a special time for your student to explain and describe the learning that has occurred so far. Please note that students will be dismissed at 12:27 pm every day this week so students and parents can attend their designated conference time. Student needing a school lunch will be accompanied by their parents to the cafeteria and supervise them eating lunch. For students attending Right at School and Arcadia Recreation, school lunches will be eaten with the program.
October 2nd-6th is our BOOK FAIR too! This is a great opportunity to enhance your child’s home library.
October 9th, PTA Meeting @ 9 am. Join the conversations in the Multi-Purpose Room!
October 19th, Collaboration Day for teachers. Student dismissal is at 11:40 am. Students needing lunches will be escorted by their parents and supervised eating lunch. For students attending Right at School and Arcadia Recreation, lunches will be available for those that request.
October 20th, All Reflections entries must be submitted. Please refer to the flyer for more information.
October 23-27, Red Ribbon Week
October 27, Students have the option to dress up at school. In the evening, Trunk or Treat Family Fun Night will take place ! Click here for more information! Students will not dress up on October 31st.

Camino Grove está lleno de familias, actividades extracurriculares y estudiantes todas las mañanas durante el día escolar y después de clases por la tarde. We appreciate the collaboration and hard work on everyone’s part as we all refine the flow of our school day routines. September will require adjustments to our regular school routines:
Friday, September 1st, Camino Grove Minimum Day (12:27 dismissal).
Due to the California Universal Free Meal Program, the following is required for the shortened school days, like Minimum days and Collaboration Days:
- Right at School and Arcadia Recreation, students who remain on campus will have the opportunity to pick up lunches in the cafeteria after school. These after-school programs will ensure your child receives lunch.
- For all other students, lunches will be available in the cafeteria after school on Collaboration Day or Minimum Day. Due to these mandates, lunches must be eaten on campus in the lunch pavilion. After dismissal, parents will walk their children to the lunch pavilion area, walk through the cafeteria and supervise their children eating lunch.
- Students also have the option to eat at home or bring a lunch to their after-school program.

Logistics for the First Day of School (English, 中文, and Español)
Dear Camino Grove Families,
The Camino Grove staff is working hard to launch the 2023-2024 school year! It takes a caring community, working together so all students can thrive.
We look forward to connecting during our next school event,
Back-to-School, on August 16th. Parents and students are invited, as this is an opportunity to meet the teacher, see the classroom, learn expectations and routines before the first day of school.
Information to Start the School Year
School Hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8:25 am- 2:35 pm
Wednesday 8:25 am- 1:45 pm
School Attire:
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday School Uniform, including the Camino Grove t-shirts.
Wednesday Camino Grove t-shirts. T-shirts can be purchased throughout the year if one was not purchased at Roadrunner Day. Or your child has the option to wear school uniform.
Friday Free dress
School Supplies: Teachers will provide your child with the supplies needed. However, we know that shopping for school supplies can be fun and exciting for kids and mark that change in the year when school begins. You are welcome if you would like to purchase school supplies for your child at home or bring them to school. If they do choose to bring items to school, please be sure to clearly label all items with your child’s name to mitigate confusion in the classroom. Your teachers may also have some suggested, grade-level specific items they will share with you on Back-to-School Night. If there is ever any concern with purchasing an item for your child, please contact your child’s teacher so we can work with you to address your concern.
Chromebooks: Returning students in grades 2-5 will bring their clean and charged Chromebooks in the carrying case to school. New students will receive a Chromebook. The teacher will inform your child of class protocols and routines for the Chromebooks.
Health Protocols: We continue to observe and comply with Los Angeles County Department of Public Health COVID protocols for TK-12 schools. If protocols and guidance change, so will we.
- COVID Compliance Team will continue to educate and implement safety measures.
- Regular good hand hygiene practices will be enforced school-wide. Hand sanitizing stations remain in each classroom, as well as around campus.
- While not mandatory, face masks are available for any child/adult who wishes to wear one.
Lunches: School breakfast and lunches are free. Click here for more information. Please complete the online account information to support school meals. Breakfast is available from 7:50 am to 8:25 am. Bringing a home lunch is an option as well. Lunches may not be dropped off after the start of school.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:
Parents can walk their child to class on the first day, Thursday, August 17th. After the first day, students will need to follow the arrival procedures.
Morning Drop-off: Let’s work together to get our kids to school safely and show our kids that we respect our neighbors and our city’s laws. Drive through the entrance on the West driveway. Slowly drive your car forward before unloading students in front of the kindergarten and school office buildings.
- Your child should not arrive on campus before 7:50 a.m., as there is no adult supervision before this time.
- Upon arrival, grades 1-5 students will proceed to the blue tables in the lunch pavilion. Supervision is provided.
- TK & Kindergarten students will sit on the ledge of the planters in the courtyard, where supervision is provided until their teacher escorts them to the classroom
. - SELPA students should arrive at the main gate, east of the student’s arrival in this area.
- Exit at the East driveway.
- Another meeting area for students in grades 1-5 is on the west side of the Multipurpose Room. The back gate will be unlocked 5 minutes before dismissal. Parents walking can meet their child in the lunch pavilion. Parents are not to go beyond the lunch pavilion or walk through the west side, to support the flow of traffic as teachers and students travel through the campus for dismissal.
Bus Riders and After-School Programs: Students need to know this process before they arrive at school. Please discuss and review with your child.
Camino Grove School-Site Minimum Day: Friday, September 1st. Students will be dismissed at 12:27 pm, while the staff collectively plans and learns.
PTA Meet and Greet: Come to Camino Grove’s Meet and Greet on Monday, September 11th from 5 pm to 6pm in the MPR. The meeting will follow, from 6pm to 7:30 pm. Your support and presence are appreciated. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Miércoles Camisetas de Camino Grove. Las camisetas se pueden comprar durante todo el año si no se compró una en el Día del
Correcaminos. O su hijo tiene la opción de usar el uniforme escolar.
Viernes vestido gratis.
Suministros Escolares: Los maestros le proporcionarán a su hijo los materiales necesarios. Sin embargo, sabemos que comprar útiles escolares puede ser divertido y emocionante para los niños y marca ese cambio en el año en que comienza la escuela. Estacionar y Caminar:
Si planea estacionar y llevar a su estudiante al frente de la escuela, estacione en el estacionamiento para visitantes en los dos carriles más al norte del estacionamiento de la escuela. Después de estacionarse, lleve a su estudiante más allá de las entradas del centro hasta el cruce de peatones interior. Por la seguridad de sus hijos, no camine por el estacionamiento. Los estudiantes que caminan a la escuela desde la Quinta o la Sexta Avenida pueden usar la acera junto a la entrada oeste. Los peatones de la Octava Avenida pueden usar la acera junto al camino de acceso Este. La Sexta Avenida no es la entrada de una escuela; para la seguridad de todos, las puertas de la Sexta Avenida están cerradas.
Recogida por La Tarde:
- Los estudiantes deben ser recogidos inmediatamente después de la escuela, a más tardar a las 2:50 p.m., 2:00 p.m. en los días de salida temprana, a las 11:55 en los días de colaboración o a las 12:45 p.m. en días mínimos.
- Nos preocupamos por la seguridad de todos los niños. No se proporciona supervisión después de los tiempos mencionados anteriormente. Arregle con
anticipación y discuta con su hijo cómo será la salida antes de que lleguen a la escuela y si hay algún cambio en esta rutina.
- Conduzca lentamente su automóvil lo más adelante posible antes de subir a los estudiantes. No esperar ni estacionarse en las áreas de carga (estas también sirven como carriles contra incendios). Padres caminando pueden encontrarse con su hijo en el pabellón del almuerzo. Los padres no deben ir más allá del pabellón de almuerzo o caminar por el lado oeste, para apoyar el flujo de tráfico mientras los maestros y los estudiantes viajan por el campus para la salida.

WELCOME CAMINO GROVE FAMILIES!
Dear Parents and Students:
Welcome to Camino Grove for 2023-24! We look forward to a wonderful school year filled with many exciting events and activities. Our first event of the year is our annual ROADRUNNER DAY.
At Roadrunner Day, you will turn in all required forms, pay library and lunch fees, submit address changes, and receive students’ assigned teacher and classroom information. Click here. (Although we do not anticipate any changes to these class assignments, due to unforeseen circumstances, they may occur. Please be aware that they are considered tentative for the first 2½ weeks of school. Additionally, please note that absolutely no requests will be taken for change of class assignment.)
Roadrunner Day is also the perfect opportunity to join our PTA, sign up to be a PTA/classroom volunteer, purchase Uniform Shirts as well as student injury insurance. Representatives from PTA will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about membership and volunteer opportunities.
We are holding Roadrunner Day on Thursday, August 10th, for all students, and Make Ups will be held on Monday, August 14th.

Important Information! Please note:
You must complete the following before Roadrunner Day.
1) Guidelines for Student Behavior – This document is included online and must be printed and signed by parent & student. Please discuss this with your child and return the signature tear-off slip.
2) Emergency Health Office Form / Annual Notification to Parent/Guardian – In late July or early August, you will receive a letter with instructions and a password for completing your child’s AUSD Emergency Health Office Form on-line. Once you have updated your information, you will be prompted to continue to the Annual Notification to Parent/Guardian (ANTP) booklet. Please read through the entire booklet. Have this completed before Roadrunner Day.
If you do not have access to a computer, there will be computer stations available during Roadrunner Day to update this information. **Please plan your schedule accordingly as there may be a wait at this station.
Roadrunner Day will be held according to the following schedule. (Please note: If you are unable to come at your assigned time, but are able to be here at another time on either day, please feel free to do so. Our goal is to have 100% participation in Roadrunner Day!)

¡Bienvenidos a Camino Grove para el ciclo escolar 2023-24! Esperamos tener un maravilloso año escolar, lleno de emocionantes eventos y actividades. Nuestro primer evento, celebrado ya desde hace cinco años, es el DIA ROADRUNNER.
En el Día Roadrunner, Ustedes podrán ingresar todas los formularios requeridos, pagar las cuotas de biblioteca y almuerzos, realizar cambios de domicilio y recibir información sobre el maestro y el salón de clases asignados. Click here. (Aunque no esperamos cambios en estas asignaciones de clase, éstos pueden ocurrir por causas imprevistas. Por favor, considere que son tentativas por las primeras 2 1⁄2 semanas de clases. Nuestros eventos de Regreso a Clases se llevarán a cabo el Miércoles 16 de agosto. Por favor, espere una carta a principios de agosto con más información acerca de la Orientación sobre el regreso a clases.
